My Jag has been eating a variety of different foods, including pellets, flakes, bloodworms, nightcrawlers, crickets, etc.... and I have recently spent 10 bucks on a bag of cichlid gold pellets by hikari and he will not touch it, and actually races away when I drop it in. How can I entice him to eat this. Can I try not feeding him for a couple of days to try and force him to eat it or is there no hope?

Starve him. He will start eating them... I got lucky with my jag and oscar, they eat anything and everything that drops into the tank! including my fingers above the water lol

no fish will starve himself to death but i would go a week just dont give in.

I've had the same problem with my severum lately, i just bought a fresh bag of hikari cichlid gold and he chews them sometimes but always spits it out.

Ive notived the Hikari gold smaller pellets are exceptionally hard. My fish will spit out hard pellets ive noticed. What I usually do is just dip them in water 5 minutes prior to feeding. They loosen up without losing all the vitamins inside, the water just absorbs in and your fish can eat them much faster.
