Wow just wow. My cousin gave me this lil bag of first bites because he said it wasn't working well with his fry, and he thought it killed them off. I was skeptical as he is a beginner w/ only having these fish for a few months (Mollies) and thought he overfed them to death.

So i started giving them to my molly and guppy live bearer fry... and they died. About 60 of them. I know I didnt over feed, and none of the other fry I had growing out in the rest of the tank died or had any kind of stress, water params were good, and literally the only thing that was different was the Hikari.

Are they simply not good for live bearers? Has anyone else experienced this? Its got me quite upset w/ Hikari haha

Huh.. thats new to me i've used that food once before and didnt have an issue it could a unsafe batch. I would call or email the company for more information and maybe some kinda deal.

thats wierd.

Sounds like the food is contaminated. He may have sprayed Lysol, Cologne or something got in the bag because they make those batches commercially by the ton(s) surely there would be lots of similar cases and recalls. I use that food for my danio and guppy fry and its great. Use it till their big enough for .5mm nls.

Could be very old and or the bag was left open thus its very hard in texture so the fish cannot digest it as well.

Wha? Sound's like a bad batch, I'd contact Hikari about getting a refund or something.

He didn't buy it.....sounds like a bad or forgetful friend IMO and may I ask why you would use that particular bag if your friend claimed it killed his fish?! That is the real question

because he thought it was due to his friends imcompetence

I used it on several species including mollies with no ill effects. I would say somthings not right.

I, as with everyone else on this thread, have never experienced an ill effects from Hikari first bites. I do believe the batch you had was contaminated.

I'm sorry about the loss of all of those fry though. :(
