Whats the hype behind massivore? Why does it cost over 2x the amount compared to Cichlid gold? Is it the size?
Under guarenteed analysis
Massivore- crude protein=47%
crude fat=5% Fiber=3% Moisture=10% Ash=17% Phoshorus=1%

Cichlid Gold- Protein=40% Fat=7% Fiber=4% Moisture=10% Ash=15% Phosphorus=1%

Massivore has 7% more protein. But, Cichlid gold has 2% more fat. Besides that they are quite similar. Why is massivore twice the cost of CG? What do you prefer and why?

It's the same as hikari cichlid bio gold +
Hmm now I wonder if it's the same thing.. lol
I've never used massivore but I can tell you that my fh loves cbg+ :naughty:

P.S.: Come to think of it, did you check the ingredients? Maybe they added something extra in massivore..
For example, NLS does the same with its pellets, the Large Cichlid Formula & TheraA Formula.. TheraA Formula costs more as it has more garlic content in it compared to the other NLS Formulas..

There are also extra costs involved in any unique runs of a product. For instance, the creation of a different sized pellet, even of the exact same formula, requires additional steps and different equipment.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Massivore. I chalk up much of the popularity to an effective Hikari marketing department picking a name which connects on a certain level with buyers. If it were called "Dinkyvore" sales might not be so brisk!

In many cases the protein % found on a label has lttle to do with overall cost, you can jack the nitrogen (protein) percent up on a label using a number of raw ingredients, many which aren't even overly digestible to many species of fish. (such as carnivores)

Take a close look at the ingredients, and forget about the crude protein %. Cichlid Gold appears to be a high carb/starch formula with corn flakes listed by weight as the 3rd ingredient. It also contains what appears to be large inclusion rates of brewers dried yeast, wheat bran, and gluten meal.

Massivore has no corn flakes, but the 3rd ingredient listed by weight is a mystery "starch", which considering the crude protein content I would be willing to bet is either soybean concentrate, or soybean isolate. Both fall into the 80-90% crude protein margin. Unfortunately neither can be fully assimialted by carnivores when used in large quantity. Massivore also has krill meal listed, which is a rather costly raw ingredient compared to corn flakes etc.

While some of the NLS formulas do cost more than others, as cchhcc suggested some of this is due to certain formulas being more labour intensive, while most of it boils down to the cost of the raw ingredients.
TherA not only has a much larger inclusion rate of garlic, it also has a higher percentage of both protein, and crude fat.

BTW - I will hopefully be test driving the new NLS 10mm Mega Fish formula
this week. Stay tuned!

I like NLS the best. Check out its labels. It contains krill which is a very easy to digest protein. The ingredients listed first on the label means that is what they consist of the most. The secret with fish and protein is the most easily digestable protein not the total amount. Check out NLS's website about protein and fish. I use the stuff and love it.

Wow.. 10mm is kinda big for a pellet but strangely it's not mentioned on their website?? Is it still a prototype pellet?
Btw, do I need to feed other pellets while my fh are on NLS diet?
I'm torn between feeding various pellets or just focus on one brand.. do let me know what you think.. & also does the TherA Formula shows better result than the other NLS formulas? I'm wondering if I should get it since I already have the large fish formula..

There are several new formulas coming out next month, none are available as of yet but have been in the works for the past year or more. I believe that the 10 mm has more of a tablet shape, than round like a pellet.
Much like Massivore in shape, but half the cost, and the same high quality ingredients that New Life is known for. :)

Do you need to feed other pellets if feeding NLS, no, some people do, others feed it exclusively. I've been feeding it exclusively to all of my fish for several years.
