Just as the title states....Do your fish like Hikari or NLS?

My fish consume a lot of pellets and it gets a bit spendy and will only continue to as the fish get larger. I currently feed Hikari massivore. The fish dig it but its 2x as spendy as NLS. My brother recently got a 5 pound bucket of NLS 10mm. It has similar ingredients but the smell isnt as fishy as hikari. I toss hikari in and the fish chow it down immediatly. I toss some NLS in and they spit it out.....my polys dont even like it. So I may just stick w/ hikari.

Well what do you guys/girls think? Have you given it the test and what was the outcome?

I've heard similar story's, appearently fish that are fed hikari find it's taste to be more pleasing than NLS, I personally use NLS and don't have a problem with my Red Terror Cichlid, but I have fed her on it from the start my guess is once they eat hikari they won't like anything else. Either way you can't go wrong using either one, they're both very good fish foods.

I, and MANY, have been using HIKARI pellets for more than 20 years..........I stand by the name and all its products.......The recent advances over thwe years have led to many new forms of the pellet........Before I would just buy the "red" HIKARI bag.........NOW, i have a choice of different types of formulas..........Even though, I still stick to the "red bag," the color enhancer..........Number staple for cichilids, and big fish, HIKARI pellets...............

My Midas likes Omega One pellets, spits out any type of Hikari, will eat an occasional NLS pellet. My Silver Dollars eat just about anything but seem to have a preferance toward Omega One Algae wafers and NLS pellets. My Pleco seems to love NLS pellets, he comes out of hiding as soon as it hits the water, but eats just about anything including Hikari sinking carnivore.

The stronger the food, The harder it is to get your fish to except it.
Massavoir is a potent one, and i wouldnt feed it as a staple unless its to P's or something highly carnivorous. Extremely fishy smell. Its pretty much a live food in pellet form. Since its so rich in protein, fish do have a hard time switch off of it. Massivore is more of a enhancer for fish that like high protein in my opinion. Its a great product, Just not a good staple for most.
Personally id go with NLS 10 out of 10 times over Hikari. Ive seen better results and my fish seem to love it. Hikari bio-gold from what I hear and my own experiences seems to be another quality staple choice.

There have been a few people that have had the same issue. From what I remember, it all boiled down to persistence. They will take it, it is just a matter of how long they want to hold out.

I used to use Hikari Cichlid Gold - Sinking pellet and I did have good results. Good growth and good colour, activity levels were about what you would expect.
I decided to try NLS Thera A+ and I quickly noticed brighter and bolder colours in my fish and their activity level increased. I now use the Cichlasoma and Community pellet as the Thera A+ has lots of garlic and the inside of my stand was very smelly because I use a sump.
My fish took to it right away, with my midas being straight in and I have had trouble switching her food before.

I have also recognized a dramatic change in colour when feeding NLS, so I to will vouche for that.
