Which do you guys prefer for RBPs? I heard both are unique but hikari can dirty up the tank? Enlighten me with ur expertise n experience feeding your monsters one of these excellent diet. Thanks in advance!

i use hikari on a regular basis. i dont have any problems with the pellets making the tank dirty. ive never fed nls long term so i cant chime in on that subject other than alot of people use it and it gets great reviews as well. i had Ps many many years ago and they got koi food as a staple and feeders every other week.

I use hikari with my monsters
Best food I've ever used by far
It does make the water dirty but only if it stays in the tank and not get eaten

There are already a ton of threads about this...
Hikari is generally liked better by fish because it's softer and full of crap (starchy fillers), not unlike fast food. NLS is far better, both in quality of ingredients and actual ingredients used. If you want the healthiest, best looking fish, feed NLS.

Why do you have to make it sound so biased sounding.
Regardings which one is better, for coloring I'd lean toward NLS. But the problem with NLS is that Its hard to make it an incoming staple if you started with Hikari. Hikari seems to "taste" better or something. Or maybe because it softens quicker. Hikari is the leading brand right now because its trusted more with age. Its been around longer. I like hikari because the coloring seems to be a bit lighter and i have no worries of any being uneaten. They both have practically the same nutrition, its just NLS has has more of a specialized nutrition while Hikari is more all around.

BUT economically, Hikari is more expensive than NLS if you buy their foods in Bulk. The largest Hikari packages of food is 2.2 pounds rounding to about $65. But while NLS sells 5 Lbs for the same price practically. I'd go with NLS if you fish arent picky economically. But if your fish are picky eaters go with Hikari.

Most of the Hikari formulas are filled with starchy fillers, artificial colors, and other unecessary and hard to digest ingredients which lead to added aquarium waste. I began my fishkeeping "career" using Hikari but I switched to NLS after doing more research and finding out how much healthier the food is for my fish.

So yes, I do have a bias, but for good reason...
When my next batch of fry come I will be doing a feeding experiment using NLS, Omega One, Hikari, and Tetra. I'll post the results when the test is completed - probably 1 year from now hahaha

I use both, I also say nls is a little better all around diet but to honest I have a few fish that only eat nls as staple. I havent noticed any better growth or or color in them than the ones that mainly eat hikari. I use the jumbo carnisticks for my big fish and they do just fine. IMO get both, i would say that nls to me is most important for omnivores and vegitarians cause it has alot of veggies in it and it makes a great suppliment for carnivores. Where as the hikari is more designed for carnivores. There will always be debate over these two foods but IMO they have both proved to have good results. As long as you feed a good quality pellet, varied diet, and have clean water your fish will live long healthy lives. BTW Xtreme and omega one also make good foods, i mix them in my fishes diet also.

This is a thread for piranhas, which pellet is better for them, commando knows what up and he has some stunning p's as do I, its always been NLS and 01.

Hikari just has too much filler and its not necessarily good long term wise for the fish. It is better then tetra or aqueon food lol

Go S. Vettel #1 rb8

Lmfao I wouldnt even consider the Aqueon or Tetra.... unless its for like goldfish... My fish Hate them. Especially the API shimp pellets.... But I havent seen a problem with Hikari Yet. But I do also Lean towards NLS. But for your fish go Hikari carnivores.
