Hillstream Loaches

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no slime coat sucking but def territorial.. and I should note I had the reticulated version so they may be a more aggressive fish. I would expect mollys to be fine with them but guppies might be a "test". I never tried a "group" of them but have heard that they do well in groups. I would just avoid trying to put a "pair" in a tank personally. But this is pretty typical of loaches in general, and I shoulda known better...

I did own a few I tried them in a community setting and the current level they needed stressed my other fish. But they are completely non agressive and I've never seen them suck slime coat but males can be agressive towards each other.

They're definitely group fish. I would just do a species tank for them. Even though they can adapt to warmer water it shortens their lifespan.

sorry chic did not realize there was a loaches forum. this app isn't very good compared to the website for finding the proper forum as they aren't all listed

ok cool! I was going to get 3 or 4 for the comm tank, since they are pretty small that should be good to keep a 40 ga breeder nice n clean.

since the first time I tried getting 2 of one fish, I realized that 2 is just not enough for most specie, they harass the hell out of each other. I made that mistake with my balzani geos, got 2 and all they did was mess with each other so I got one more and they're doing much better.

if they don't seem to be liking the comm setup, then I will setup the metachrome for them, should be a wild looking tank, with the chrome facade and these strange loaches lol

there any other negative effects other then that? I think ill be getting 3 and putting them in my comm, now if that comm isn't to their liking ill setup a cold water 29 ga for them

I saw these Hillstream Loaches a LFS, and they told me that this particular Loach is not an Algae Eater.
