I want to make a 2 part glass lid for my 125g with a hinge in the middle so I can lift half the glass up for tank access. Kind of like a cupboard door laying on its side.

I thought I saw plastic hinges somewhere for glass use but cant seem to find them anywhere. I don't want to have to drill any holes through the glass. Does such a thing exist? If so where can I buy them?

Those things are a piece of crap. All of mine no longer hold the glass in, and this is a huge hazard (to me and to my fish!)

I've had the glass tops for less than a year when the hinges do this. I would try to find the types of hinges that use a metal U piece secured with screws, similar to how an entertainment center's glass door attaches to the center.

I don't know if such a thing exists though.

You can order them online, I've seen them at F&S. Just make sure you get the correct ones for the thickness of glass you are using. Alternatively, you can just run a bead of silicone between the panes of glass and it will serve the same purpose.

Can you connect me to pics or a detailed description on how to hinge with silicone? I'm running into this issue with a new custom tank I'm setting up...My glass lids are very thick and there are no standard hinges available.
