he is a rapper....he has ghost writers ex: Gillie da kid

Too Short - Born to Mack; Freaky Tales

Believe it or not - MC Hammer -- prior to "Hammer Don't Hurt Them" and his Hammer pants - He used to drop the SICK bass! (Look up: "In the Mix," "Ring Em")

NWA - anything and everything

African Bambata - "Planet Rock" one of the best Hip Hop jams of all time! "Rock, Rock, the Planet Rock, Don't Stop!"

2 Live Crew -- "As Nasty as They Want to BE" owned one of the sickest bass lines in "mainstream" hip hop. And just because you heard of 2LC, doesn't mean you "heard" 2 Live Crew!

All this talk about True Hip Hop and no one has mentioned Atmosphere? Brother Ali? Grieves? P.O.S.? Anything from Rhymesayers is the bomb! Minnesota hip hop/rap is under the radar but there are some seriously talented artists.
werd

Eyedea is the best MC, period and Abilities is the best DJ. (IMO, of course)

only current mainstream artist I really listen to much of anymore is The Game

Funniest thing i read in here was "minnesota" and "hip hop scene" hahaha. I don't ever view minnesota as cultured. not saying it isn't, just an outsider view looking in.

I think of rappers like "spose" out of Boston

On the lil wayne front, if he hadn't done what he's done in the last 3-4 years, some of you would be quoting his early years and calling him "true hip hop". The dude just blew up and changes his style over and over until it became pop music. Now no matter what he puts out, people will flock to it regardless of if it's good or not (prom queen for goodness sake?)
