Magic Place Of Wonders And Delights
Ok well i have been cleaning tank more often like every thursday guess i will do it every wednesday and been giving him beef heart every 2nd or 3rd day because it has got fatty stuff that should help or am i wrong? also i think it might be the fact that he floats around in the tank then out of no where is like OMG A ROCK HEADBUT OMG THE FILTER CHARGE :nilly: he is nuts he has got many cuts from being himself lol so could you give me some tips please.

Thanks

P.S i got to go to school so i will be back in 6 or so hours

How big is your tank, how big is the O, and how much water changes do you do? I've never heard of beefheart helping because of the fat in it. It is pretty much the only mammal meat that is normally fed, because it is almost all protein. Bird and mammal fat is actually harmful to fish in large amounts.

BTW, you said you have been cleaning it every Thursday, and you are going to change to every Wednesday......whats the difference? Its still once a week.

If your oscar has HITH, I wouldn't feed beefheart. Its a messy food and will only speed up your nitrate creep.

How much water are you taking out when you do a water change? What size tank do you have? Is the oscar the only fish?

I would start by doing atleast a 50% water change 2 x a week. I don't know what size tank you have or how many fish, so this is just a general guess, but it can't hurt.

I would also keep your oscar on a healthy diet. Majority should be a good staple pellet. Hikari gold/staple is a good brand. The other part of its diet should be 'wet' foods or occasional treats - prawns, brine shrimp, peas, lettuce, zucchini, etc.

why feed beef heart? that is not helping at all, if anything making it worse, you have to feed just more than one food, i would feed pellets and shrimp it wont be as messy
also how big is the tank and you prolly want to do 2 water changes a week

To much beefheart is not good for fish. Do a few small changes added to the once a week change you are doing. What are you feeding him? What size is he? What size is the tank? How much water do you change every week?

Have to agree with the rest, stop the beef heart it will just foul your water quicker, go with a good pellet and some veg if it will eat the veg, mine won't touch the stuff, and shrimp instead of the beef.
Up the water changes to 2x a week and around a 50% change, water quality must be near perfect before it will clear up.
What size tank? And flow rate for filters? Also if you have carbon in your filter take it out, I have never proved it but have heard repeatedly that carbon in Oscar filters leads to HITH.
Best of luck and keep us updated.

How big is your tank 55G or 60G

how big is the O he is 9" across and about 4-5" deep

BTW, you said you have been cleaning it every Thursday, and you are going to change to every Wednesday......whats the difference? Its still once a week sorry i did this thread in the moruning in a rush lol how stupid of me :nilly:

How much water are you taking out when you do a water change? hmmm he is in a 55G or 60G i take out about 20-25 gallons.

Is the oscar the only fish? Yes

I would start by doing atleast a 50% water change 2 x a week. I don't know what size tank you have or how many fish, so this is just a general guess, but it can't hurt.
ok then i will start

Carbon=0 and filtertion and airtion is alot for my tank heaps :D .

I keep it usally on pellets but i thought beef heart would help.
His diet usally consist of pellets as staple brineship beefheart every now and agin hardly feed it to him and then bloodworms i rarely have time to go shopping nor the money for shrimp ECT.

Well, the set-up you have is adequate. I would still like to know what type of filtration you have. Do you have a test kit? Could you post your readings for Ammonia/NitrIte/NitrAte? Test both your tank water, and your tap water.

Hopefully up-ing the water changes will help, but if you have high nitrates in your tap water, it may not.

do you have carbon in the filter? it's thought that the dust from crabon can cause hole in the head remove it and see if it improves
