Well, the set-up you have is adequate. I would still like to know what type of filtration you have. Do you have a test kit? Could you post your readings for Ammonia/NitrIte/NitrAte? Test both your tank water, and your tap water.

Hopefully up-ing the water changes will help, but if you have high nitrates in your tap water, it may not.

I am uping water changes my old test kit is broken **** :nilly: .
Went to my LFS today they are ordering more but at the moment they don't have any good ones in so i will have to wait. They never get good kits in because they think peple don't buy them enough so i think i might search my area. I don't think it could be my water i have had him for 6 months i think it might be from when he hurt (cut his head open :irked::() him self he hurt his barrier and that might be how it happen because after he cut his head open and it healed he got HITH also he stopped eating for awhile and being hurt and not eating probly doesnt help but i will do 2-3 water changes and update you soon :D.

Thanks M8's :headbang2

Try using prime to eliminate ammonia instead of other water dechlorinator.
AND Try out some metronidazole and mysis cause it is high in omega 3 fatty acids

You are simply not doing enough water changes. An oscar in 55g of water should require 2-3 50% water changes a week. I have done it, and measured nitrate levels along the way. Build up to large water changes, and do them more frequently.

Definitely stop the beefheart.
Do more freguent water changes. I would do 50% every 3 days to see if it stops spreading.
HITH is most believed to be from poor nutrition and poor water quality.
I have used carbon for 22 years and never had a case of HITH.

There is a good chance your O's HITH is nutrtionally induced. Beef heart is missing some essential vitamins your O needs. Specifically vitamins C, K, and D. I suggest adding a vitamin supplement such as Boyd's Vitachem for fish. If you are unable to locate any vitachem, liquid centrum or poly visol infants liquid vitamins will work. An effective way of adminstering a suitable dose is to inject some of the vitamins into a freeze dried meal worm or cricket, or int a peice of shrimp.

I agree with ctenopoma, carbon may cause hith as well. Remove it.
Other than more frequent water changes, up the temperature slowly to 80.
Add some espom salt and your good to go.
Plus a good diet such as hikari pellets(bio-gold ftw).
No meds is required IMOE.
Should heal in no time.
Keep us updated.
