HITH in Geo altifrons,how/why and what can be done??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I could possibly run the smaller UV I have on the barrel of rainwater for a few days before doing the water change. I'll see how they look when I get back from holiday with only tap water for changes. Hopefully its not anything leeching from the background, I'm counting on the waste being greatly reduced so they only need a water change after two weeks (instead of one week as usual when I'm feeding heavily every day), but if there is something leeching then its going to build up a lot more with only half as much water being changed.

Hmmm, My Midas started HITH and I bought the cheap box with dissolving tabs from Walmart and its healed. Get the Parasite one that turns your water yellow.

My brother raises and breed Flowerhorns and so he told me about it and really works

ok yeah if they are captive bred then its either something in the rainwater (not necessarily a living contaminant but maybe some type of chemical) or the concrete background like aquanero said, with concrete backgrounds dont you usually have to shock it with vinegar or something and then cure it for awhile before having it in with the fish to prevent leeching and affecting water params? (i dont know much about concrete backgrounds as i havent really looked unto them that much but i know from reading around in the past that people usually cure it first)

It was soaked for about 4-5 months before I put any fish in there, and I used to use water from my other tanks (pH ~6.0) to fill it as well as chucking in several bottled of pH down (don't think of vinegar, doh!). If they've still got it when I get back after not using the rain water for a month I'll do some more serious research into treating with meds.

I wish I could. We don't have Wal Mart in NZ and even if we did we have much tighter restrictions on over the counter drugs.

Oh my bad, I forgot to look at your location there buddy
