For an update to my Oscar with HITH he is doing great.
Here is my first post:
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344069

I have managed to get my nitrates down to 5 ppm in my 55 gallon tank with the oscar. His eye has cleared up, he is extremly active, eating well, and very moody. So it sounds like he is doing well. The holes are slowly going away but there will be scares. Still got him on a med treatment but doing it every other day. watching the water peramiters and have buckets of well water on stand by. I will update with some pictures as soon as I can get him near a camera. :)

Congrats!

Thanx guys.

what medication have you been using?

When I add water from the tap is use AmQuel+ per replaced amount of water.

The current treatment I have been adding recommended dose for a 55 gallon tank every other day for less then a week now. Treatment includes Melafix, Pimafix, vitamin C., and quick cure. Also a dose of salt which is about to be faded it out.

I also had a three day treatment of the parasite food (can't remember the name) it includes metronidazole and another additive that starts with a P. Both recommended. Also changed the diet to a Spectrum diet with a pinch of the med food here and there. Also have had some crickets in there too. Feeding takes place every two to three days.

I have been watching the water parameters very closely and if there is any concern I do anywhere from a 10% to 25% w.c. I try to save my w.c. till Sundays with a 25% w.c. All w.c. on the 55gallon has been with well water with NH3-0ppm,NO2-0ppm,NO3-0ppm,pH-7.

Controls in the tank I have added are bio wheel with pond grass. Bio wheels are still in place and I have also placed a light to promote growth on the wheels and for the grass. This HOB also has a mineral pyramid in place. In my second bio wheel I have the carbon in and a seachem nitrate destroyer pouch in place. I also have a Cascade 600 internal filter that I replaced the media with the Seachem nitrate destroyer. I have also added drift wood with java moss, and planted bamboo in the tank.

So far the tank looks good and everything seems to be doing its job. One thing I have not done yet which was mentioned by knifegill is to ground the tank. I just haven't gotten around to digging out the right AWG wire. :D
