Hith with pikes?!?

There is a atabapo 1 pike cichlid for $25 at a Lfs. Sounds to good to be true right? Catch is it's got hole in the head. Done a lot of research and it seems like hith is a fairly controversial topic. Some say it'll kill the fish others say it's ugly but nonfatal. Others say it heals right up, some say theirs remained scarred for the rest of its life. Called a couple Lfs they claim that it won't kill the fish but it'll scar for the rest of its life. They also said it depends on fish. Atabapo 1 are black water fish. Any opinions?

The fish will be scarred for life. How bad the scar will depend on how deep and big the HITH is. Water conditions, stress, and diet (in that order) will affect the rate at which HITH progresses. Having HITH will affect how the fish processes the water through it's body (osmotic regulation) until it heals up. I've only seem rare cases where very bad HITH killed a fish, usually the fish die as a result of bacterial infection before HITH gets too severe.

It was an atabapo 2 hith wasn't as bad as I thought so I picked him up. Owner had him and his mate for 3 years then female died so he gave it to the store to help it find a good home. He's pretty grey and washed out now I'll get some pics up soon

HITH most likely would scare the fish for life, especially for cichlids if it was not treated early.

He got heater burn when I moved him to a new tank and gave nothing besides one PVC pipe and a heater and filter, so at one point of the night he was snuggled next to heater. He has a ugly white blotch on his right side. Question is do I just add salt? What else should I do for heater burns never have I had this happen to me

You could do a methylene blue dip for 30 mins (1ml or meth blue for every gallon).

He actually wasnt burned he's completely OK nvmnd the white blotch idk what it was it was there for a few minutes when I came back it was gone
