Hmm.. Did I miss the bacterial bloom in my cycle?

i agree as well, if you have no source for ammonia then your test will not show any. Add 4-6 drops of that 100% ammonia per 10 gallons of tank water and then wait 24 hours and test it. If you then have no ammonia or nitrite but you have nitrate then you can add what ever fish you want. If you are going to wait on the fish then you need to add 2-3 drops of ammonia per day to feed the bacteria.

One more thing since you added seeded filter material to your tank there should be no bloom of bacteria. Cause they are allready there.

OK, well I got some Walmart household ammonia and raised the level to around 3ppm or so (going by the API test vial color). Will see tomorrow around noon what the levels are.

I've read that after cycling one should do some massive water change but then others don't say it's necessary. So yay or nay?

if you do a traditional cycle (without adding seeded filter material) your nitrates will be very high at the end of the cycle. nitrates of the final result of your bio filtration and will be high because of the previous nitrite spike.

this is why its good to do a big water change when your done cycling. that way you can get your nitrate levels down to safer levels for the fish

I added ammonia to my tank yesterday to about 3-4ppm concentration. I tested the water today and the level had dropped to about 1-2ppm according to the card. I tested for nitrites and they were 0. So I upped the ammonia again to 3-4ppm. Should I just wait and keep doing this until my nitrites go up or what should I do? I'm not sure what I expected but it doesn't look like that seeded filter did anything for me (?)

Advice?
