Guys I'm looking to move from my fx5 to either 2 ac110 or 2 emperor 400. I have 75g with a single rhom so it's enough filtration. I really just want to get away from the canister filter. I might move to a 120g but I think these filters will work fine on that.

My question is which of these two hobs have the most capacity. Prior to the fx5 I had emperors for 10 years and ac1110 years ago but can't remember.

I also heard that emperors have been changed to lower quality materials.

Since, I got back into the hobby, 3 years ago, I've been running an Emperor 400 non-stop without a single hiccup. I also have 2 of the smaller Penguins hob as well, for a couple of years now, and no issues with them either. The great thing about the Penguin/Emperor hobs are the filter pads are super easy to replace/maintain. I think either brands will work out just fine for you though.

I have both and prefer the AC110 more, but for the money the Emperor is just as effective in my opinion.

Some of my larger tanks have two AC110s on them. Some have an AC110 and an Emperor 400. I like the AC110 for mechanical filtration and the Emperor 400 for biological filtration. Can't go wrong with either of the two filters.

I have a ton of media in my FX5 so I was thinking of dumping as much as I can in the HOB, and then just having either a foam block or something else for mechanical, and then add purigen to help with nitrates. My concern with the emperor is I dont know if I can fit all of that. From what I remember you have the slots that you put the blue pad that holds carbon and then that grey container that you can put whatever you want in it.

Frankly, I dont care about those two items. I just want to be able to stack pouches of my biomax which I am not sure I can do in the emperor. It just irks me that 2 AC110s will run me $160 and 2 Emperor 400s I can get for like $110.
