IMO AC 110, best HOB there is. I use them everywhere.

I have a ton of media in my FX5 so I was thinking of dumping as much as I can in the HOB, and then just having either a foam block or something else for mechanical, and then add purigen to help with nitrates. My concern with the emperor is I dont know if I can fit all of that. From what I remember you have the slots that you put the blue pad that holds carbon and then that grey container that you can put whatever you want in it.

Frankly, I dont care about those two items. I just want to be able to stack pouches of my biomax which I am not sure I can do in the emperor. It just irks me that 2 AC110s will run me $160 and 2 Emperor 400s I can get for like $110.
You don't need to use the blue pads or the grey media holder. But again I caution you, the flow is no where near that of a 110

I'm currently using an ac110 & penguin 350. In my opinion, the AC110 would be best. More room and flows nicer.

Why don't you build your own....get much higher flow and more media capacity....and cheaper..

I can post pics and instructions if you want

There is a lot of videos on YouTube. I just build an overflow yesterday. The sump just needs to be cleaned cause it hasn't been used in a long while. Look for DIY Hang On Back Filters.

Just finished sorting the images, I'll going to post pictures and instructions in about 6 hours when I get to a computer.

The specs of my hob are, 2000lph flow and 2l media capacity

I have both an Emperor 400 and AC 110. While they are both nice filters, the AC 110 is better in my opinion.

Imo the AC110 is the best hob out there when you consider media capacity, gph and quality/life. However for the money I'm leaning towards the aqueon 75 as I've purchased multiple of these filters new on Amazon for only $29. However if I find a used AC110 for less than $40 I'm all over it.
