I currently have an Penguin 200 and an AquaTech 30-60 on my 55gallon with 1 Oscar 6-7" or so and 1 Pleco around 10" is my guess never measured him but hes close to the with of the tank so yeah. The Pleco was an unexpected rescue from a 38gallon that almost never had a water change as a result hes blind in both eyes tho it looks like they may be clearing up just a little bit. They will be moved to a larger tank at least a 125 when I move out in around 4-5 months.

Anyways to the point the Penguin 200 is set up as purely bio. Along with the Bio wheel its shoved full of media. The aqua tech preforms my mechanical filtration however its just about shot and on its last leg so I need to replace it.

I'm looking at getting an either:
An AquaClear 70
A Penguin 350
or
An Emperor 400

Any input on what to choose would be great.

I'd spend some money on a larger tank, a 55 REALLY isn't suitable for an O as a lifelong tank. It's the bare minimum.

A 75 would be a better choice to spend the money on, 75's are a dime a dozen here in Denver on CL.

edit: I realize this isnt what you asked but it needs to be pointed out.

A 75 literally fits in nearly the same space, same 48" long. If you're joining the AF soon, which I whole heartily appreciate, maybe you should find a new home for your O or move it to a 125 sooner rather than later.

The best choice of the three filters you listed in the Aquaclear. I would go with an AC110 over the 70 though.

The Oscar is staying and it shouldn't be an issue. It's not like hes living his whole life in there If I could get a 75 or 125 now trust me I would. However that is not an option. Hes 6-7" and even if he grows to 12-14" in there he'd only be at that size for a month? Before he got moved. The Oscar was my first "real" fish and a beloved fish hes not going anywhere and he will get optimal care

My grandmother is getting me this so I want to keep the cost down. The ac70 is only $35 vs the $60 for the ac110.
