HOB Fluidized Bed Filter?!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Be real gentle with them just about everyone I have seen have some epoxy or silicone on them from breaking something…. also you will want to do something for power outages…

Fludized beds are easy enough to make without buying one.

These are ok, not bad but not great.

I used one running Purigen and/or Phosban. It worked pretty good. I had it hanging on my sump.

Edit: to my buddy Swede-
Not really... Its a fluidized bed, not an HOT magnum canister. Thats like saying an Ultima is just a big FX5. They are completely different designs...

well what i should've said is you would be better off buying a canister

There is no way you can support as much bio bacteria in any canister made as you can in a fluidized bed filter.

Bed filters are purely bio filters thats it.

That's my understanding as well. The people that use them swear by them.

People do swear by them, but I've only heard from people with big ones. I've never heard anyone mention a HOB version. I'm also kinda skeptical that the smallest one is rated for a 300g tank... The price isnt too outrageous either. I might try it when I get my next tank, but I'd love to hear a review from somebody who has used this bad boy & what powerhead they ran it with.

Manufacturer ratings are worthless and should be ignored...

I'm sure it would do fine on a 300 gal with one guppy in it... "300 Gal" could describe numerous different situations with numerous different needs...

But if you have a 300 gal and you buy one... like it but it's not quite big enough... you'll buy another one... which is why they drastically overrate things...
