The unit doesn't have a motor. It can be run by almost any powerhead, so I'm pretty sure the 300g rating only has to do with the capacity of the HOB. And yes, they do want you to buy more than one. Thats why it has top & bottom inlets for daisy-chaining several together. I scoffed at first, but READ the info on the web page, then give us your opinion.
