HOB overflow systems: What's your opinion?

It depends on the water level in the sump. In mine (I don't have an HOB overflow though) it is only about an inch above the pump, so if the overflow got clogged (which isn't going to happen because the tank is drilled) then the pump would empty the sump until it started sucking in air. The tank wouldn't overflow because only a few gallons would be added to the tank.

True. Mine are on a central filter with a drip system so I don't have that luxury.
