For my AC500 I use sponge on the bottom and bagged matrix on top with polyester wadding/filter floss in between. AC's are great filters except they get dirty very quickly and need often cleaning which I guess means they are doing their job well. I clean mine in tank water every 2 weeks which is no hassle as its an easy job.

kinda hard to fix now with the tank filled, my leveling thing actually broke and i just put as many sponges as it takes between the tank and filter to make it straight

my is pretty damn straight now..

if it is not 100% straight, would this break the filter or something?

I am still trying to figure out whats the best combo media to use.
