I took up gem cutting decades ago. I don't do the metal work but, I cut uncommon stones/gems and sell them as specimens and for mounting into findings (rings, brooches, necklaces, etc.) I also do intarsia and scrollsaw woodwork and make rocking animals (never made a classic rocking horse. I make rocking dinosaurs, giraffes, llamas, ostriches, gators, etc.)
gem cutting, eh? I learned glass work, clay, and stone, plus some metal, but never gems. what's it like? also, more on topic, pretty much my entire life has been making money off of what I like doing. read my posts in "how much do you make per hour""

LOL maybe you need to do what oddball did with his hobbies and buy new equipment when you gain some proficiency at it.

Horse Back Riding?

I consider it a hobby. I'm going to be making money by helping my instructor train a horse to sell and she'll split the $ with me.

Anybody breaking out the ol' metal detector on the weekends and hunting for buried treasure?LOL

no but seriously.........

[/QUOTE]

I scuba dive area lakes and old beachs with my metal detector, find all kinds of beer cans, some other good stuff too. heres a pic, have sold most the good stuff, only gold ring ive kept is the first one i found, was in like 25 foot of water. nobody metal detects to make money, its just fun dig old crap up, plus normal scuba gets boring to me after a while
