Hobby related injuries-no fish bites

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My upper arms are perpetually bruised from doing water changes on my tank; it's a 75G on a tall stand and I'm short, so anytime I have to reach my arm into the front openings and down near the bottom of the tank guarantees that I will have bruises.

I can relate to this one as im also short so reaching the bottom of any tank is a great way to get bruises.

Great stories guys. Keep em coming!

Ive also shocked myself a few times thanks to heaters.

I've gotten cuts in my armpits from trying to reach the bottom of my tank, the 30" depth and a 36" stand means I can just barely touch the bottom if I stand on my toes but if I move too much the rim slices into my arms.

Pretty much all of the above lol thank god I never had a tank shatter on me but yea, cuts, bruises, canister on the toe, shocks, I even cut myself yesterday setting up a worm bin lol. I have cuts on my hands pretty much daily from work (contractor) and I've had a few get infected from playing with tanks with open cuts.

I would be extra careful with open cuts you could get that Bactria that eats away at your skin.

I have a 1" scar on my rear from falling backwards onto an empty tank. It should have had stitches but who wants to get them there!:redface::redface::ROFL:

Bassfisher, I wouldn't say "electrocuted" yet. It'd technically mean you died from the electric shock.

Encountered electric shocks myself from touching the aquarium lights but that's it. I've avoided so far getting injuries from the hobby. :headbang2 Does getting allergies from a frog count?lol

I've never thought of that. I always thought it could mean injured or killed but I guess you're right. You learn something new everyday.

I've had heater burns from reaching into a tank and forgetting about the heaters being on and touching them.

Prying plastic bits apart ive had them break and slice my hand open nothing too serious. I am however still growing my nail back from one instance where a thin peice of plastic slid under my nail causing that part to die and I had to cut it away

I was doing a water change on my 180 and my home made stand is about 40 inches off the ground plus the tank is another 2 feet so in order to reach the back of the tank I alway stand on a folding chair to siphon the gravel so as I was moving to another section of the tank to finish when my weight shifted on the chair it cause the chair to fall and it landed on its side and I feel on top of it and ended up cracking 2 of my ribs it didn't feel to pleasant...I wasn't happy that day to say the least
I have also been shocked from a heater that was letting off a small electric current nothing bad just a little zap on the finger tips and I pulled out lol and junked the heater

And another time last week I was cleaning out my eheim 2262 and when I was going to plug it in I got zapped. Man that hurt like hell.
