Since I am so new to having an acquarium that I am truly enjoying and learning about, I did that to my filters, that is, rinsed them out and replaced just one that needed to be replaced and rinsed the other out under the tap. I thought I was doing something very negative but wanted to spare having to buy those large expensive carbon filter packs all the time and it does seem to do the job pretty good. My tank is very clear. When I do water changes, I put back bacteria and put a couple tablespoons of it back into the water since I learned the cloudy water can be caused by lack of bacteria too. When I first got this tank, the water was very cloudy and I didn't know why since I used the product that you put drops in and it clears up the water.
