and what do you mean by stay primed?

im new to all this even after reading and reading...
 
staying primed basically means that the upside down U shaped bend that goes over the edge of the tank never fills up with air, otherwise the overflow won't overflow.
 
lol. becaue the air can only go one way hence the "one way check valve" Also air can get in your oveflow through the intake(where water goes into hole) just by suction.fish that splash, et cettera. The air will get caught at the top of the loop. So you suck the air out of loop using the check valve. check valves come with air pumps most of the time so water doesnt drip into the pump itself
 
a T is a split pcv it looks like a T so that is why its called a T also i have a thread about turing a HOB into over flow let me find it :)

an anyone give me like a brief drawing or something to show how to make it?
 
in the 60 some page DIY overflwo thread there are many pics and links on how to assemble one. Takes about 1/2 hr to make one if it your first time.
