Chocolate cichlids have a lot of character, displayed in many different ways, but especially at feeding time. Many cichlid keepers liken them to Oscars in their personality. They are "push to the front of the line" fish as soon as they sense that a meal is impending. They crowd to the top, jumping for the food before it even hits the water's surface. I've had fingers nipped many a time when I delayed slightly in releasing the food item to their hungry mouths waiting impatiently below. Their ever-present upward gaze is a comical and common sight in my tanks. Here are a couple of photos of some WC 'temporalis' jockeying for position, trying to shove one another out of the way. And they never seem to get their fill. Truly like "hogs at the trough".
