holding up a 180 with 4x4's?

I built one with 2 by 6s for a double stack of 125s. To replace the old stand that double stacked them, that was made just from 2 by 4s and that worked for years. If I was to do a 180 on top I would double up the 2 by 6s and there would be absolutly ZERO doubt of whether or not it's strong enough.

Do you have any pictures? I wan't to do the same thing. I would like either 2 100s $500 for both with lights, 2 125s $700 with lights, or 2 x 75 $250 with lights. I wanted the 125s, but the price for the 75s is making it hard to beat. I currently have a 180, 125, so i like these mid size tanks.

4x4 is more than strong enough to do the job... its no problem

anybody think i would have a problem holding up a 6' 180g with 2 4x4's(one front,one back) spanning 7' with no vertical center support? i need to make a stand that will hold the 180 above another 6' tank.

exactly. if it sags replace it with a 2x6 or a hardwood 4x4

well i picked up some free pallet racks, so no longer have to worry bout building a wood structure.
