I think its brought on by stress, and / or bad water quality...

Whats your tanks parameters like?

a few theories out there.. but seems to be a lack in nutrion/vits or water quality ect... ive also used liquid vitamins to help cure hlle... head and latteral line errosion... hole in the head is a parasite. i also found removing carbon from my filtration helped ( it liekly removed key mineral/vits) what do you feed, and more water changes wont hurt.

Feed cichlid gold like twice a day and water quality should be good ill test it when I get home. And up the water changes. Will this clear up? Cuz my other Oscar has only one spot on its head. Why would my larger Oscar have it so much worse? He runs the tank so could it be stress related?

Every Oscar i ever had at some.point gotta touch of it i can't help but think It they are stressed easily my water quality and diet were always good. The idominate one maybe experiencing stress just from defending territory being aggressive can be stressful. I think i used api general cure to cure mine cant really remember. There are just so many different theories out there. Some have be mentioned there is also the carbon theory which i have also seen good facts to support. Wish the best for your oscars.quick recovery.

I have heard its most common with store bought or over bred oscars. The theory is that the inbreeding or whatever happens after generations are bred in captivity they may become weaker in their immune system and more prone to HITH. Not sure why this isn't more rampant in other breeds that are bred in captivity so readily. I haven't owned one myself but I had heard that wild caught oscars are less susceptible to HITH. Anyone heard or read anything abou that?

There are alot of health problems with store bought oscars, also alot of deformities from in some cases generations of inbreeding. WC is the way to go they are gonna always be healthier fish.Thats exactly why I told myself that I would never get another oscar unless its WC. Oscars also have delicate skin and scales that with lower immune system = HITH. It is also more common in fish that prefer softer water and oscars do.
