Geophagus braziliensus is endemic to southern Brazil. More sub tropical than tropical, and may be better off in cooler water than you are keeping it. You may find low 70sF into high 60sF may help. I have kept them in my outdoor pond in summer where water temps dip into the low 50s at night without ill effect, in fact they have spawned there. Not only are they found in fresh water in nature, but also brackish.
