HOLY COW! When did the language change?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fish keepers is informal, Aquarist is formal. Aquarist makes it sound like you are trying to make yourself seem better than someone, especially if they are lower class. thats why "Fish Keeper" is understandable to anyone.

For the same reason why Proctologists refere to themselves as "Butt Doctors"
Never heard a proctologist refer to him or herself as a butt doctor but then,I have never actually been in the company of a proctologist.

Also, the article is very well written and mostly true. except I hate how they always refere to parrot cichlids as not being able to eat, swim or engage in normal social behaviours being deformed etc. those are the early fish from 20 years ago. I've never came across parrots that bad quality. they are usually spunky fish that are territorial and can hold their own. I wish people would just dispell that myth entirely

+1

I dont call myself either fish keeper or aquarist. I like and have fish

Good article, I made a small change (Parrot to Blood Parrot) ever since picking up a Parrot (hoplarchus psittacus) so now it drives me crazy when people refer to Blood Parrots as Parrots. Suprisingly my very first wiki edit.

As far as what I call myself when it comes to keeping fish; I usually just refer to myself as a "fish guy" as I know many of you have been refered to as that: fish guy/gal.

Nice one thanks for correcting that, any chance you could add that the early blood parrots exhibited those problems but the ones that have been bred throughout the last 5 years or so exhibit perfectly healthy behaviour and can make very good mixers in cichlid and non cichlid aquariums.
I usually don't tell people that I keep fish because it might make me sound weird, but believe it or not everyone I tell thinks its pretty cool. Maybe its just the wording that I tell them I keep exotic tropical fish like a 15" florida gar :P

I know a plastic surgeon (breast implant specialist )who's nickname is nipples

or a slight misprononciation, like Dr Naples
