So you would recommend salt for ich....hmmm. I've always just done the temp/extra aeration method if I had an outbreak and had successful results. Thanks for the info.

I would recommend it, yes, for most CA/Sa's, but your method works as well without it, you just might have to do it for a little longer. Some fish are more sensitive to sodium chloride than others, but the big hardy cichlids we keep are usually ok with it. Id go with a lower dose if I had clown loaches, as I do (or koi, goldfish etc..as well as lower temps for coldwater tropicals), but Id still do it.

edit:..and youre welcome. I have learned a lot from your posts (& prior experiences) so glad to be able to help back.

Im thinking that the Ick might have came on when i forgot to plug the heater (WHOOPS...) back in after a water change... When i checked the temp it was at 78, i usually keep it at 82-84f... Maybe a combination of the water change, no heater, and removing the eggs made enough stress for ICK to come along..?

Anyway, i found some iodine salt, so i only added a little, i saw on a few websites that iodine is harmfull to fish... so i didnt add much, im going to pick up some non iodine salt without that yellow stuff in it... the lights are off, just not sure if its enough...

Kinda makes me sad, ever since i got her shes been really friendly to me, always rushing to the top when i enter, now she stays at the bottom, even when i feed her, she gets a bite and swimms to hide in her dave, she used to chow down right at the top... it sucks.. hopefully shell get over it soon...

(Maybe the ICK is making her scared and skitish? shes never been sick before, ever... even when i got her from petsmart at like an inch long... her colors have always been vibrant, shes always been happy... now all the sudden shes scared.. could ICK do that?)

most animals behave differently when they are sick, so that is not unusual

you're quite certain it's ich, right? I don't recall seeing any pics of the sick fish, but are you sure of your diagnosis?

also, since we've talked so much about water parameters - - thanks to the W/C digression - - did you ever post what yours are ?

I have no more supplies to test the water, unless theres a home type thing i can use... im pretty sure its ICK, theres white spots all over. They arent spreading, i guess because the temp is up and ive been treating it with salt and ICK meds...

Is there anything i can use that i have laying around the house? like a sheet of paper that will turn blue if the water is bad or something? No money and no transportation right now...

I would toss the ICK meds, heat or heat plus salt work well enough.

Formaldehyde is used in a lot of ICK meds, low enough dose to kill the parasites and not the fish, but even small doeses can't be good for the long term. I'd check the ingredients before adding anymore.

Can look at pictures of ICK with Google to be completely sure, pretty much looks like someone sprinkled salt on your fish. Sounds like you already got that covered though.

I finally found out the sex of my Jaguar Cichlid... It spawned/laid eggs yesterday, and got really angry when I approached her tank... I don't know if it's all the anger and energy spent trying to protect her eggs, or the fact that PetSmart told me to pretty much do a 75% water change and remove the eggs because they'll poison the tank, or what... But she got Ick...

I did another 25% water change and put in some Ick medication, and upped the water temp to 84-86F... Now, all of the sudden, its scared to death... Anytime I come near the tank, it scatters, it won't hardly eat, and it hides from anything...

I was sitting on my bed, playing MW2, turned to get a drink and it flipped out, and the tank is at the other end of the room!

It's also lost a bunch of its beautiful colors... here are some pics, I altered one to look what she looks like now... I would take a pic, but my camera is broken, and I don't want to spook her any more than she is...

I might as well flush it and buy a hamster...

don't give up just because petsmart sucks! i feel for you losing the eggs, its tough working for something and watching the fish eat them cause of a silly mistake! ha i wiped out a 10 gallon tank every 5 days when i started, kept washing the bio filter out!!! :irked:
please give us an update in a few days, sorry if you already did, lol, been up since 6am est all these words are blurring and coulden't make it thru 6 pages of posts. :irked:

Im trying the salt and heat method, but shes laying on the bottom on her stomache... thats the first time shes ever done that... im afraid shes gonna die... sorry guys, you helped as much as you could...

well you have done what you can, im sure its just stress, keep the traffic around the tank to a minimum and the lights off for the next couple of days and hopefully she will pull through

Im leaving to denver saturday morning, and coming home monday, while im gone there will be no foot traffic at all... the tank is in my room, and everyone in the house is leaving... unless my dog can open the door... hopefully that little break will help it out... should i leave the lights out for that time? (I have timer that turns them on automatically...) Its swimming again, not sure what its doing...

Also, how many times in a row will a Jag spawn? i noticed the birth tube sticking out again, but its not fat yet...
