holy moly. i survived an earth quake just now

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a tall 45 in my living room. I hope it's still standing. It shook pretty good where I am for about 20 secs. The pick-up out front was rocking like sombody was jumping on it. Straping the tank is a good idea.

Just the title of the thread is funny to a native californian. "Survived" a 5.9? I probably slept through a couple dozen 5.9s growing up.

You know what scares californians? SNOW! Unless you go to a ski resort, then it's expected.

You east coasters are hilarious. ;)

I lived in San Diego for a time. You do NOT understand.

There are building codes in Cali. that require ALL contruction design in the state to "absorb" some of the energy of the tremmers. I have been through MANY in CA.

Dude. The buildings on the East Coast have NOTHING like a code designed to "absorb" any of the kinetic energy.

It was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WHATSOEVER like a quake that I felt in CA. The building (if the do move) in a tremmer is horizontal. The quake here on the east coast caused the building(s) to move north south!

You are hopefully jokeing in a serious situation where we can still not even dial out to check on our loved ones.

Ususally an awsome poster, but I think you are a bit calious here. Sorry to rant on you, but many of us have HONEST concerns and are not "quite" comfortable enough to "joke" yet until we can assure the safety of our families for pete's sake. Have a little compassion here!

yea, for me the most scariest thing is trying to reach family afterwards. last one we had here during work a year or two ago the phone lines are flooded, you can't call no one

especially now it's more scary since i got 2 kids that started school this year

I am glad I am not the only one. I have never been in an earthquake and it scared the crap out of me. I know you guys from Cali proly think it's nothing but my house is old and has a bad foundation. My whole house was shaking side to side. The worst I have seen is tornados and hurricanes. But earthquakes thts freakin rediculous.

+1 Our buildings in a 5.9 quake move like a building in Cali in a 8 or 9 since we are not built at ALL like in CA and Alaska. We are not meant to move at all. I know our building was all over the place and I am outside Philly. God only knows what it was like in DC and closer to the epicenter
