I like the paintball idea. Paintballs dont hurt super bad so keeping it at about 250 fps. would probably be good. If it gave them a little sting they definitely wont come back. Wild animals get used to loud noises after a while once they learn it wont hurt them. Look at deer we shoot guns in our field all the time and they come back a few nights later because they have never been harmed in the field. If you cause a slight pain they will remember that forever as coyotes are intelligent canines.
 
seriously bro, dont get dogs, take too long to train, rabies, ticks, all that crap. Either get a paintball gun (electronic) and shoot that *****es ass UP! Thats HAS to do the trick, a guy on youtube killed a 600lb boar with that gun! Pellet guns work well, i have some, their cheap to shoot, fun to shoot, i have a 1000 fps modeled gun that wouldnt wake up the nehbors in a residential subdivision! OOO and P.S. coyotes are nocturnal, like to eat meat or plants, berries, so make a bunker on your deck, ect... make a little bunker so it cant find you if you miss and your nehbors wont SEE YOU! Works well. Any more questions ask me

why does everyone say pitbull even after dogo was brought up? a pit wouldnt stand a chance against a dogo. a breed standard pit is itty bitty. seriously, i have 2 OLDE english bulldogs (kind of resemble a dogo) and an extra large german shepard. if youre dealing with a pack of coyotes, get a pack of bad *** dogs. since you live in southern cali i wouldnt recommend akita's but a pack of short hairs would do the trick. problem solved, might take a while unless you pick up some full grown dogs. but its gonna last alot longer and take less then staying up all night every night hiding in a bunker waiting to shoot them with a high powered pellet gun. and be real, you think taking this coyote out is gonna stop the problem? when it leaves you will just have another one take over its territory.
 
i know alot about dogs and i used to be a fan of dogos...i have sene videos of them fighting pumas in caged matches but half the time the puma (mountain lion) had one claw declawed and on top of that...the cage is more stressful to the cat then dog..


anyways i suggest the CAUCASIAN OVCHARKA. dogs are f'in nuts.... you would have to be very dominant in dealing with this dog though. this isn't a 60lb pitbull lol. these dogs were bred to kill/ protect livestock specifically especially against wolves...so coyotes are like nothing to them haha. these dogs way up to 180lbs and are pure muscle with hairy lose skin...unlike "usual" fighting breeds" which is a severe advantage for them.
