hahaha i thought just like you too. like wheres my bichir?? and when i took some initiative. i found him in my sumps behind my tank have no idea how he got there. but i have no idea how he would've gotten back into the tank either.

Pikes really know how to hide. Even a grown one can hide you won't believe it.
They have pretty flexible bodies and can squeeze themselves in the narrowest places, kinda like eels actually. Also they seem to be aware what parts of their bodies ara better camouflaged and hide accordingly.

I'm impressed. Now he's the most active fish in the tank. Everything I've read said they eat live foods exclusively but I think he ate some beef liver that I just threw in there.

It is individual. Some are picky eaters, others gobble down everything that has enough protein.
I don't think any pike will chose to starve because his food is dead. Vinny Kutty mentioned that his Crenicichla Semifasciata did not eat for six weeks before accepting new food. But that seems to be the record. I have two Semifasciata and one is picky and moody. My vittata eats everything I put in the tank apart from lettuce. Her favorite are convicts though. They disappear within seconds I transfer them on death row. Clemency is never granted.

hahahaha. what species do I have? is this a xingu I? What is the scientific nomenclature?

Yes, that is a xingu 1. When I had mine they would eat everything. Live, frozen, pellets, flakes. Glad to hear you found yours.

Like i said in another post, I research everything before I buy it. (I just didnt know the name other than orange pike). I've read that it gets to be a foot long and males change to a dark color and females turn to a type of green. Anything else that can be offered as far as info goes... I'm all ears.
