yeah..the pores might be a bit smaller but its pretty close to the one i bought before ether way i plan on dunking it with each weekly water change.^_^

Woot indeed.....

i was wondering how you "sewed them together" did you actually sew thru the tubing? also if it were to be glued what kind is safe for fish? its a wonderful idea. and i hope it works out great for your needs. i may do something like this for my shrimp tank when i start breeding them again.

yeah i sewed them together...witch means i took fishing string..tied it once it was threw the needle and punched it threw both tubes to keep the small one in it wrapped it around the tube and tied it off ..it was only because i have no stones to keep the tubing in place atm so the wrapped fishing line and being tied in holds every thing in all neatly.
i probably wouldn't use glue unless it was silicone..but honestly if i had hair stones it would probably all stay together with out anything.

hard to get a good pic but heirs another one

Natural sponges have alot more surface area than those foam yellow type. They clog much quicker and cant hold very much inside.
Sponge filters are highly effect biological filters. Most people overlook them because of their simplisity but it turn its why they are genius.
Think about it, A sponge has a lot more surface area than HOB filters. With the same about of waterflow it can do twice the job.
In conjunction with a mechanical filter, they really are great. Just not very attractive looking.

do you think i could use something like this in an outside pond. i of course would use several but its either this or a filter made out of a storage drawer thing. im goin completly diy on it. i dont want to spend a bunch of money on outside goldfish.

hmm...its possible?
im gussing you'll have to get someone with more experienced with spung filters.... im afraid this is my first one i made and only the second one iv used, the first was for my betta fry tank...

but i cant see why not a filter is a filter as long as its for the proper gallons

hmmm maybe this should of been in DIY......how do i get a thread moved?
