Omege one Kelp flakes

Is this good for my fish? Should I switch or add any items?

Even though mbuna are considered herbivores, most of the nutrition they acquire in the wild is derived from the invertebrates that live in the aufwuchs the fish graze on. They need protein in their diet.

The omega one flakes have protein in them.

yes, but you'll be greatly diluting the amount of protein available per feeding if the omega one is your only source of protien.

Maybe thing about adding some frozen krill (if you're making a puree) or some frozen daphnia to your mix.

I have fake crab at home, would this be a good source of protein? I am trying not to spend any additional money because I have already spent too much on a new tank and filter sponges for my fish.

You would not, about what?
If its about the fake crab, I have fed them a little without any harm or signs of sickness.

I'd be concerned about the amount of sodium/salt that the fish will be directly ingesting if you use such a highly processed food.

If you're that concerned about cutting costs then why are you mixing the pantry into their diet? just feed them the omega one straight until you can pay out a dollar or two for a tiny piece of fresh fish (I've read white fish is preferred over pink fish, though I don't know why)

I'd still go with the Krill or Daphnia, but if your trying to avoid going to the LFS (my wallet BURNS when i'm in there ;) ) you could buy a couple raw shrimp from the fish counter to mix in instead. 2-3 of the cheapo shrimp shouldn't set you back much.

Just stick to a high quality food like NLS. Its reasonably priced and there's no need to use anything else.
