Home water filtration

Those purifier that attaches to the faucet does a decent job at filtering out a lot of bad stuff but with an R/O system you get like nearly pure water. Also with an R/O system you'll need space for a holding tank for the clean, filtered water. There's typically 2-3 prefilters that is recommended to be replaced annually and a single R/O membrane that needs to be replaced about every 8 years or so. They sell a cheap digital device that tests for TDS to see when your membrane needs replacing. After a couple of years of lugging around water bottles, I absolutely love my R/O......8 years running.

Here's what I got http://www.freedrinkingwater.com/ro-45-detail.htm

I had that too, but felt too guilty about all the waste water. 2 gallons dumped for every one gallon filtered. I pulled the reverse osmosis membrane and just run one 15 micron particulate filter with two 5 micron carbons.
if I could find my tds meter I'd love to compare results between then and now. the RO water had 21 ppm down from 175 ppm from the tap.

Ya my RO at my Phoenix house takes my ppm (tds) from 450 down to 20-30. I have to change carbon every 6 months, and membranes yearly because the water is so hard.

My RO is strictly for drinking not fish, so I feel its totally worth it for my family. But I totally agree with you about using it for fish water.
