Has anyone made any natural looking, homemade caves or hides for their fish? I'd like to build something for my SA Cichlid tank. Currently I'm using a very light rock (not pumice, but similiar) in brick forms and constructed several caves by building upwards. Just wondering if anyone remembers any good thread ideas?

I always liked the coconut caves... quick, simple, cheap and they look nice if you've got plants & driftwood in the tank to stick them amongst..

grab a coconut, use a jigsaw to cut the bottom off so it's got a flat edge, use the jigsaw again to cut an entrance, use a spoon/chisel/knife/whatever to get all the meat out and voila! you're done!

My dad bought this brike stuff for garden like were the eges aroung the garden they are hollow and i made a cave it look natural and has alge it is awsome

Idk about you but i usally cant just grab a coconut. good idea if i could find one within 400miles. But any way if you have any flat rocks you can build them up or use aquarium glue on some dry rocks to hold them together then put them in.

silicone some slate tile or buy i huge piece of pvc cut it in half, slather it with silicone and put aquarium gravel on top

i took a deep tupperware dish cut out the bottom of it and used that. i thought it was an original idea.

Lightweight caves can be made from insulation foam (both sheet and expanding spray); build up the basic shape, carve it to a rocky look, and silicone gravel or other material to the surface.

I recently saw an interesting thread on carving PVC pipe to make natural-looking hollow "logs". Here it is: http://www.caudata.org/forum/f1173-.../63462-do-yourself-fake-wood-cheapskates.html
That link is awesome. I've been considering things like that but now I must try it.
