Finally decide to take the risk and add a CO2 reactor to my planted 55 gal. Made out of a large Gatoraide bottle and two small vitamin jars. Diffuses through the outflow of the filter. Hope it works! Heres a pic.co2.JPG damn sideways pic. lol

I've got one on my tank (Root Beer Bottle). I had a bit of trouble getting a good diffusion going, and I didn't like the noise of the bubbles in my filter. If you have issues, I ended up grabbing this off amazon, works amazingly. You just have to be ABSOLUTELY sure you are airtight, because the smallest leak wont allow the pressure to build high enough to get through the ceramic.

thanks for the heads up i will keep an eye on it. i siliconed all the connections, should be airtight.

I did this with a 2L and diffused though the HOB filter and it worked really well. Now i use an old UGF uplift tube for a diffuser (an idea i got from a thread on here a while back) and it will completely diffuse co2 at a rate of 1-2 bubbles every 5 seconds which i've been told by a couple people is a pretty good amount. Heres a pic of it in my 55 gallondownsized_0111122115.jpg

i was aslo wondering what kind of sugar to yeast /water ratio some of you use. right now im using 3/4 cp brown sugar to 1tp yeast in 5 cups of water.

i made a diy reactor out of a little in tank filter, there are a lot of those on youtube, it works really welll

From what I've read, yeast isn't too picky, heh. But I have read that white sugar will last longer than brown, however brown sugar gets the yeast going faster. I usually do 2 cups of white sugar mixed with warm water filled to where the jug begins to taper. I've experimented with throwing in multi-vitamins and baking soda to keep the acidity low, but I havent seen a noticable difference. Each yeast culture behaves too differently for me to get an idea on whether additives help or not.
