I make and use what I call formula 4 (for obvious reasons.) Anyway I toss thawed market shrimp with the tails pulled off along with whole smelt and a handful of peas along with a dash of paprika into a food processor....chop until it's well blended. NOTE; this is only for the small fish...the others get a mix of the same foods but whole.
Once I have a mash of sorts out of it I take it and spoon it into several party ice cube trays I found that duplicate the comercial frozen food size blocks and then freeze the mixture over night. I never use and binding agents...the fish love it. I just toss in a couple pof frozen cubes and watch them pull them appart as they thaw. Originally I used tuna and catfish nuggets in the mix but the added oils really made a mess out of the water and a lot of the fish didn't care for it.
This new mix is eaten eagerly by ALL of the small guys except for the fry of course. Costs me about a dollar a pound and an hour or so per batch.
