Nice set-up! I have a carpintus in a 75 gallon with 5 HRP. Everyone is getting along so far!

Figures . My FM parents where passive until they spawned and then they had fish twice there size pinned to the corners. Thats why i tried to keep all males I didn't want anymore spawns.

I have never owned these before so I am learning only by reading. I read they are much more passive than convicts. Will they clear out the tank when they spawn like a convict will? I did read they don't spawn as often as convicts.

Mine spawned small - male 3.5in & female 2in and they kept a much larger & very aggressive severum pinned to one side of a 75gal. I'm not sure about spawning frequecy as I culled the fry each time, but it was every 2-3 weeks until my male decided to jump out of the tank. Cover the tank btw...

The folks I've talked to, including Sam Borstien and Rusty Wessel, do not belive the leucistic HRPs are a natually occuring fish. I wouldn't cross them with the normal coloration HRPs and spread the offspring around. They are both wonderful fish in their own right and don't need to be crossed.

There isn't allot of real information on HRP's out there so nobody can really say much about these fish with 100% certainty other than sharing personal experiences. Sam and Rick have a bit of info that I read. He stated the Rio Danli is the only true HRP. This is another reason I bought from Jeff I wanted a true Rio Danli HRP.

I have no intention of crossing any of them or breeding at all but if it happens then it does. I bought these fish with the pure intention of enjoying them.

If the HRP beed then I will sell them as HRP Rio Danli. If the leucistic breed then I will sell them as Leucistic. If the two cross then I will sell as HRP as other HRP's are being sold. I will be responsible with the lines as I have already spent extra money to ensure I got exactly what I was looking for with out doubt.

They would still be HRP's just not location specific. I don't really see any issues with that. Its not like I am hybridizing.

While most hobbyists consider the term "hybrid" to indicate a cross between two fish of different species, technically hybridization can occur both intraspecifically, between different distinct populations within the same species, and interspecifically, between two different species.

IMO the responsible thing to do would be to not sell any crosses, period.

Anyone know if you can sex by body shape two of my luecistic are deeper bodied and two are more elongated. Could this be a difference in sex? Both are still small about 2" I am guessing.

Just wanted to do an update. As mentioned before the camera doesn't do the colors justice. The colors look amazing in person. one of the blue males reminds me of Frontosa coloring. He is a little bulldog and is really packing on size quick. Unfortunately I think I got all males and maybe 1 female. I have one that is considerably smaller than the others who I think is female. But I had it separated out to treat for Ip's in a smaller tank so that is possibly why it is smaller. View attachment 1022666

What is the difference between hrp and convicts? They look identical to me.
