Honeycomb moray experience and advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So is a Tess and a Fimbriated in the same tank a bad idea? Or "could" it be possible provided it's big enough and they are properly fed enough?

I would raise the salinity up slowly if it was me and get it closer to 1.20 also would recommend a min of 36" wide 48" being preferred... pvc for caves would work good just consider the size needed for the eel. you don't want it to get stuck when it is larger... I wish you the best of luck with this new venture and I must ask can we have some fresh pics of the monster tanks

me or arapaimag?
just remember that every fish in the gymnothorax genus gets atleast four-five feet. i cannot stress that youmjust get the biggest tank you can afford enough!

There are actually quite a few gymnothorax that stay under 2'.

Thanks for the advice on tank size. I was thinking of a 180 or bigger was needed at present.

What temperature did you keep yours at?

A 180 would be good for a 2' eel. A 4x2x2 would be a minimum. They dont move around a huge amount and they curl up so could be housed in alot smaller a tank then a similar sized fish. Although i def agree the bigger the better.
Mine where kept about 25-27c but i have absolutely no idea what that is in farenheit or even how you spell it.

Maybe in like a 10,000 gallon and i still reckon the tess would catch up with the fimbriate sometime. I have owned a fimbriate and i like them and they are def a tough eel for there size (mine scared me abit) but they have absolutely nothing on a full grown tess. Not a good idea.

Hey MFK had him nearly a year now and he is doing great.

Your advice in 2007 helped me thanks.

Cool got any pics of him? Is it a demon like the ones ive seen or he hasnt gone bad yet? Tried out any tankmates? If you havent ide have a go at stuff either alot smaller or alot bigger then him depending on what size tank he is in.

Jeff Mountjoy took some pics last week and just emailed them to me today.

I keep him alone why take the chance when you and I know what he will do to anything in his tank.
