I have been there several times. It is in fact a road, in Kowloon, with more than a hundred shops. tanks are crowded, fish are bagged in the morning and I don't know if all of them get "de"bagged in the evening. You see datnoids and other fantastic fish, by the ton, like we see gold fish in our lfs's..arowanas to die for, though mostly hidden in the back of the store...the guys working in the stores and/or owners very rarely speak english, don't give a rat's ass whether you do busines with them or not ( they mostly cater to the chinese ) a very unfriendly bunch, I would say, those lfs guys.

Be very carefull if you buy fish to bring back with you ( aro's is a big no no, could even get you in jail over there )..Most of them get aprehended at the airport and are left to die, in the bags, in Customs...

Having said that ,it is an unforgettable experience to stroll through that road. you can spend days over there.

As to the sw fish that are in restaurants, most of them ( except some huge groupers that are there for show and luck ) are for eating. you go in, choose, they kill it ,you eat it....I have observed truck loads of live fish arriving at a restaurant zone, near the wharf, with fish in buckets. Fish to die and kill for, if you're an aquarist..

Miguel: They are just generally very unfriendly. They usually only bother talking to people they know who will spend money and they are usually frequent customers. If you're new in the hobby you're gonna get short blunt answers from them.

ays: it depends on the shop. I know some of them do some of them don't. But usually by the end of the day most the bags on display will be sold.

i'm wondering if anybody knows the price of tanks compared with here in America??? some have said americans are cheap, but if i could get a 1,000 gal tank for $500, i'd have 10. and how bout fish prices compared to here???

Yup, in general that's the way they are. It takes some getting used to.

Big acrylics are not common, glass is the way to go there. It's not so much the price of the tank and more of real estate prices. To have a huge tank means big space has to be allocated & the prices of property in HK is not for the faint hearted. A lot of general public reside is apartments that are not exactly generous by world standards. :)

get on the MTR (train system) then go to Prince Edward Station. I don't remember which exit you go to. But when u get there look at the signs there should be an exit with Allied Plaza. Go out that exit.
