I want to add some more filtration to my 125 gallon so I figured I might as well add another FX5 since I'm seeing them go for cheap here on MFK...

My question is if there is a way to hook them up so I have them all on one loop. I have seen similar things done before but could not find a write-up on how to do so. If you don't know what I mean, I would like to have 2 FX5 filters on my tank but only one inlet and outlet in use. I would have some plumbing coming from one of the FX5 outlets go the inlet on the second filter where it would then go back into the tank from the second outlet. If anything, I just need to know the size of the outlet on the FX5 so I could get some piping to do a DIY project.

Any help is much appreciated!

I wouldn't do it. The benefit of running two filters is that if one stops working, the other will act as a fail safe.

Also, I know MFK is all about overfiltration, but two FX5s on a 125 is just plain not needed. And you said that's ADDITIONAL filtration? :D

2 FX5's on a 210 i thought was a little overboard, but 2 on a 125 is just nuts.

that being said.. it's possible to do some pvc plumbing and put a Y in the intake and return lines. that way if one fails it's no big deal, the water will still flow.

That is what I would consider. I wonder if that would affect the flow though... 2 FX5s is realistically about 1200gph, and they use 1" hoses...

2 FX5 on 125 is a little overboard as some members said.

I won't hook them up though. Besides one filter acting as a backup in case one of them fails, placing multiple inlets and outlets meant much more evenly flow in the tank. Helps keep the water more crisp by boosting mechnical filtration as gunk would have more chance of entering 2 strainers instead of just 1.

thanks for the input guys. At the moment I have a 9" motoro and a 17" arowana and they are producing a lot of waste. I'm on top of vacuuming the tank but I'm often told my filtration is enough mechanically but not enough biologically for stock that I have. I recently did my cleaning of my FX5 and it really wasn't even that bad. I have a large hang on back filter for more bio and to help keep the water flowing better up top.

Then what you need is an eheim 2262
