hooking up 2 FX5's together?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think it would be more of an eyesore in your tank to increase the plumbing size to connect 2 FX 5's together just to eliminate 2 inputs and 2 outputs in your tank. Plus, it is not recommended to connect two canister filters in series and have them both pumping out water.

You could always just use the second FX5 for bio media only. Use appropriately placed tank decor to hide the intakes if you don't like the way they look in the tank.

Put that money towards a bigger tank then... That Aro is already too big for a 125.
This is my first thought also. I was waiting for someone to say it.

Upgrade your tank to atleast 300 if you want to give your aro a decent life. Then add another fx5.

It was MsMassPoly and I don't think she plumbed the filters together. Here is the link, post #6.

actually, i don't even think the outside of those flex hoses is 1". i have 2 of mine replumbed and they work well with 3/4" pvc pipe. you COULD.. i still think it's a bad idea, find a Y fitting with two 3/4" sides that go into a 1" have the 1" pipes go to the tanks. that way there would be plenty of water volume available to the FX5's. could be a way to keep from limiting the flow too much.

i didn't do the math.. just a suggestion.

I don't plan on keeping the arowana much longer I know the tank is too small for it. It was just a thought about hooking up 2 FX5's together but after hearing what everybody had to say I realize it is kind of pointless and if anything would slow down the rate of filtration having to do threw 2 canisters and there would just be more build up.

thanks for the link to the thread too, much appreciated!
