since you said that the tank just cracked and you where settig it up. i think that its stand or ground under the tank shifted. this could have caused the tank to flex and crack... in the boat your in i would get a new tank ASAP and save your invenstments. the rick and fish wont last long... then in time fix this one and recoop some of your losses by selling it for half of what you buy your new one for...

but if you filled it too quickly that might have done it. but this seems unlikly since you said that you have $900 in rock and fish, so no one would buy it all at once and dump it in...

but a rock at one point could have shifted and chipped the glass and this causes the tank to strees and crack???, although then the crack would radiate out... the more i look at it the more it just looks like a freak accident...

I've been gone for a while, can someone post some links of the popped tanks?

Good news found a reef ready 220 everything with it lights, sump, pump, stand and hood for $850.00 last weekend already in place and ready to start filling it up. As for it settling no that wasn't it checked everything nothings moved and the floor is concrete so I guess it'll be a mystery. As for the spare tank now I'm going to try to repair it.

hahahaha, i just got a awsome idea... right where the crack is, cut the glass right where its cracked in a square, then add hindges and sell it as a huge terarriume/vivvariume for like $600... hahaha i bet you could sell it too...

wow-sorry to hear your tank busted, but glad you found a good deal on another one. i really, really hate these tankbusting threads--it makes me paranoid about my tanks! lol..

The tanks are made to be full...otherwise they would just make them smaller.

My tanks have a max fill line about 2 inch from the surface covered which is cover up by the tanks trim. They are commercially made, so I assume it's for this reason. Up until about 5 minutes ago I used to fill them about a cm over this line, not anymore:eek:

The problem now is there is only about 3mm between the water line and the bottom of the trim:irked: Still better safe the sorry

Damm that sucks, especially when it happens for no apparent reason. Hope you get your new tank up and running soon and manage to salvage something from the cracked one
