my ornate is doing fine and just bought him a elephant nose companion. i saw on annes web page that they are listed as possible bitope tankmates so i decided to try it. in the first 3 minutes the bichir latched on to the nose(witch is about an inch largwer than him) and got a displesing shock from the tale but he just kept coming. i rearanged the tank and fed them and no they seem to preoccupied, the nose is hiding and not eatingim not supprised hes been on live food forever and now im trying the frozen) and the bichir is eating. any help is much appreciated.

I think what you had was the bichir letting the nose whos in charge, try feeding the nose where its hiding and see if it will eat.-Anne

Compatibility, the reality
When asked "will they get along ?" Sometimes the answer is as simple as yes or no, The truth is we speak in generalities some fish in theory should be ok together some not.The long broad sweeping statements are flawed as they are generalities I think we all know generalities are just opinions , but because we are dealing with animals each with its own personality its flawed. This question is harder with predatory fish, due to their natural habits ,predation! where they naturaly feed on the smaller , the weaker and the sick, claim territory and defend it . The actual answer is we don't know it's our best guess that they should or shouldn't get along.I know one of my bichirs is highly agressive which is completely different from what i have been told, so he's in his own tank , my others all conspecifics seem fine together which is oppisite from what i have read and been told. Its a case of trial and error to some extent and depends on the individual animal. When introducing a new animal into the territory of an established animal try rearanging the tank it tends to remove reference points for territoriality but most important watch for trouble and stop it before it goes to far.-Anne

It's not a webpage I'm a bichir forum leader on another site.I really don't like posting links to another site as it could be thought of as trolling which it certainly is not meant to be -Anne

If it means people learning more about bichirs and how to take care of them properly then there's no way it should be consindered trolling. I think they should make your primer a sticky here as well or at least be able to link to it.

i agree.... and im sure Li knows that you have no intentions to be a "troll"

i wanna check this site out cause i would love to know more about these guys
