hoplias/channa

let us know who wins if they get in a fight. i wouldnt do it because the wolf will eat it if the SH is too small. and the SH mite kill the wolf if the SH is too big.

When very young both will be less aggressive but first wolf fish will try to kill snakehead. If the snakehead survives sooner or later the wolf fish will be a snack.

So what youre saying is a full grown micropeltes is going to "snack" on a full grown wolf? I dont think so. A goliath wolf, no way. And a hoplias, Ive seen them put down fish bigger than themselves. Come on now. Were talking of a fish who will not tolerate any tankmates and has the jaws to back it up. Time and time again, we all see the thread, "can you keep so and so with a wolf?" And the universal reply is, "NO!"

I kept a hoplias around 9 inches with a couple of oscars, and they gave as good as they got.

Hops are overrated, my albino channa would have torn it up. No doubt about it.

I've kept both and I've seen the way they kill prey etc, snakeheads are on another level, they are extremely violent fish.

The giant wolves are not easy to come by, most people have mals or ery erys.

A Micropeltes is just as formidable as a Wolf. Just as impresive set of teeth and a bigger mouth. Just as or even more aggresive.

I think it would be a case of whoever got the first bite. I've seen many pictures of fish sliced in half by Micropeltes.

I guess so. It all depends on the fish. Ive had two hoplias' and both were hell spawns. My buddy has one and he seems very tame in comparison. It would be nice to have a tankmate with my wolf but I dont want to risk the life of him, or the other fish. Maybe a snakehead is the only other fish who could stand the challenge. We'll see...just found out snakeheads are legal in Montreal, Canada.

Aye legal in montreal, I just bought one yesterday. If you are in montreal check out Big Al's in pointe-claire on St-Jean blvd. I bought what they labeled a "3-spot snakehead" for 20$ (about 3"...I took the bigger one ;) ), and they also had another genus which they labeled "Rainbow snakehead". The so called rainbows were in quarantaine, they just had received them yesterday. I was told the 3-spot would grow to approx 16", and the rainbow to 8" and less agressive. It's in my tank now...hiding in the rocks cause my other fish are trying to snack on him. Hope he will live, I want to put him in his own tank later...

This place has nice fish, but they suck for knowledge...I can rarely get a latin name for a fish there...btw they also had one wolf fish left, if you are interested :)

Let me know if you buy one!

The reason I put snack on the wolf is that most people dont understand that a micropeltes is capable of eating till bursting point.I have known quite a few owners that have lost most of their tank contents overnight rather than one by one when they have not heeded warnings on reds.Rainbow snakehead will be bleheri and three spot(usually 4) will be pleurophthalmus. Both can be kept in a group and are some of only social snakeheads(with their own kind)
