I have had my mala with gars no problems. I have it right now with 5" true parrot cichlids and it has always been with catfish.

i might see if he does okay with one of my smaller black piranhas but i dont know if i wanna take that chance

Piranhas and other fish is the same as you sticking your finger in a pencil sharpener. You'll get the same result every time. Much less with a black piranha.

Memo, move gars out and put one new one in and the mala killed it. Don't trust them.

can you tell me where u found the malas?

I Acquired a 10 inch hoplias mala and had him 2 nights before he killed my 14inch giant snakehead these fish are unpredictable

just so you know, in one of the areas of SA where they are native there name translates to "Pirahna Eater" so I wouldn't put a natural predation situation in a tank unless that was the point. and I doubt you want to lose a black pirahna. unless its HUGE it will be killed.

I would observe the wolf for a while, and if you want to put other fish in it, you should provide plenty of drift wood cover and hiding spaces, to mellow out the wolf and provide escape routes for other display fish being bullied

I have my rainbow wolf w/ an ornate bichir w/o a problem. but the ornate is big, a couple inches longer then the wolf. you should put larger preds in the tank then the wolf fish.
