I am aware of this predator but didn't bother about it much until recently that I seem to be interested in knowing about it. Yes I checked online about them, but I just wanted to know if there are anyone here who mix one with other species of fish.

I am not planning of having one together with my Climbing Perch ( 6 inches ), Ornate Bichir ( about 8 inches ) and Florida Gar ( 7 inches ) but I just wanted to ask, it would be a disaster, right? And does anyone know about any Hoplias Malabaricus gallery so I can browse over the pictures to take a look at the differences between them, if any? I am checking at pictures I can look for online but just incase you guys know some I would really like to share. I am not so attracted with the fat and big belly looking Hoplias Malabaricus ( unless they all become like that ), the males are slender aren't they?

If I get one, then I guess I would just keep it in a seperate tank solitarily. My final question is, does Highfin Wolf and Rainbow Wolf fish grow up to 20 inches too? Which one do you guys prefer and why? And what's the smallest species in the family? Maybe that would work keeping together? And I am confused with the name Highfin Wolf and Red Highfin Wolf. Red Highfin is just another Highfin except that it has a red coloured highfin? I hope you guys can clear me up with this matter.

Wow check out this Wolf fish, never seen this picture before, what a beauty. It says Red Wolf Fish, what is that? Rainbow? Red Highfin? Or another species?

rainbow/highfin wolves are the smallest species, I think around 8 inches is the max, not as big as a hoplias.

You'd be safer mixing the rainbow with other fish. I had a hoplias with other fish and it never killed anything, but i had a partcularly passive one.

8 inches max? Thanks for the information, that is just a tiny little bit over the max size of a Climbing perch. But I want to ask, wouldn't an 8 inch be vulnerable to a growing Florida Gar? As well as an Ornate Bichir that can go up to 2 feet in length? But it sounds good and I may try and see, first of all I need to know where in here do they sell Wolf fish, I don't think I have ever seen one in any local Lfs.

A Rainbow Wolfish that runs away from me and hides forever being shy or afraid wouldn't make me happy, I would always sit with such fish spending a lot of time letting it know that it is all right. My Climbing Perch was one when he came, now he wants my attention as soon as he sees me waking up ( I have my tank in my room ), and tries to swim after me and wants fed. And lays near my hand when I reach him, but of course runs away when water changing. I hope it can work with this Rainbow Wolf fish that you say is shy.:)

yep because of the teeth i think:naughty:
